Show time is almost here! Several displays are show ready. More will be added this upcoming week as 6 additional artisans bring their creations to add to the mix. We will be open three weekends. For anyone reading about us for the first time, we are not a shop with regular hours but rather a group of talented artisans who gather three times each year to stage seasonal shopping events. You will find gorgeous florals, both seasonal and year round, contemporary hand painted signs, primitive wall pieces, framed photos, metal containers and decor, fabric crafts and more. Our spring show weekends are:
Friday and Saturday, April 7 and 8
Friday and Saturday, April 14 and 15
Friday and Saturday, April 21 and 22
We are at 407 E. Franklin in Lanark, IL. You will see signs directing you to our Carriage House shop. Hours are 9:00 to 5:00. We invite you to like our Facebook page www.facebook.com/pages/Picket-Fence where you will find additional posts throughout the three weeks of our event and as well as notice of our fall and holiday shows. We also use Facebook to tell friends about any special sale items or discounts.
Below are some preview pictures. Enjoy and come see us in April!
It was a big weekend with a drive to Minneapolis to visit son Andrei and attend the January show at the Minneapolis Mart. Andrei attends college in St. Paul and is great at getting around in the Twin Cities. He remains my Picket Fence Employee of the Month (only employee I have ever had, so he does not have to relinquish the title.) So he gets an employee ID badge to attend the wholesale show with me, and he spends the day helping me choose things to order for the shop.
This year we focused on metal containers for spring arrangements and accent pieces for Holiday 2017. Hard to think about next Christmas when I have not yet put everything away from this past holiday, but I find it is best to place some orders early, as product might not be available later. We learned, too, that some wholesalers order their product based on pre-orders at the large trade shows. If we are interested, it helps the wholesalers if we let them know now, so they know what items and how many of each to order for their inventory. So order we did, and I look forward to receiving our new picks.
While visiting, I also got to see great photos from Andrei’s study abroad that he had just finished. Then of course there were wonderful meals out, and we went to nearby Stillwater (kind of like Galena) to tour antique shops and book stores. I am not one to do much traveling. These weekend trips are perfect–my kind of vacation.

Thank you for following Picket Fence, and we look forward to seeing everyone at our spring show in April.
Another June wedding, this one with the burlap and lace theme, accented by a very soft pink and a bit of gold. A florist prepared fresh flowers in milk glass vases, and Picket Fence contributed burlap and lace runners and enhanced the reception with lots of lights, burlap, lace and lighted trees. My favorite was the head table with many soft lights and big burlap swag with bows. Wonderful people to work with once again. Set up and tear down went well with lots of help from both families. A truly enjoyable experience!
This past weekend was great fun as I headed to Lake Somerset to decorate the lodge for a beach themed wedding. Lovely bride Jacquelyn wed her best friend, Drew, and I had the privilege of creating the wedding party flowers as well as decorating for the reception. Jackie was in my junior high small group at church way back when, and I worked alongside Drew’s wonderful mom while volunteering in the church office. The wedding was a reunion for me with many friends, old and new.
Bride, groom and both families worked on various components to prepare for the wedding and invited me to come alongside to put it all together. A great experience–delighted to have been a part of this couple’s special day!
A big thanks to all who came out in cold, wind and rain to support our Spring Show! We will be wrapping up this week with an additional shopping day and some special discounts. We will be open Thursday, Friday and Saturday, April 14-16, 9:00 am to 5:00 pm.
We are once again offering two for one on all of our lighted canvases and lighted burlap.
And we are putting together a sale section of $5.00 to $10.00 items, all being offered at deep discounts from original prices.
The weather looks much nicer for this final weekend of our show. Looking forward to putting together some new designs for spring and assembling our special sales area. I may even be mowing lawn before Friday–it is indeed time to celebrate spring!
